Personal Computers (Keywords: gig, gigabyte, gigabit lan)
I had gotten accustomed to that computer, a wonderful AMD machine that was fast but not the fastest. in its family. It was the fastest i had ever had and it worked wonders for me. Well, I had it for a month and it showed me some pretty cool stuff like gigabit lan. It also showed me that one cannot really be stuffing memories on a windows machine because windows cannot use them.

The hardware  specs might talk about 4 Gig or 8 gig but you have to consider your operating system if it can actually use those gigs or are they merely be sitting ther looking pretty and doing nothing. For a windows machine, 2 gig would probably be tops unless you do some voodoo magic with your settings.

Desktop Computers (Keywords: Mhz, gigabytes, hard disk, computers)
I have a dual core Pentium and i have a dual core Athlon. There is just no comparison between the two. The Athlon is just fast, really fast. The dual core Pentium is no slouch either but when you work with these two, you can tell that one is going much faster than the other. Well, I cannot really say how fast and how they do it but I get things done much more quickly on the Athlon. I have always been a fan of AMD having used their processors since the 386. What thrilled me about it is that they used to overclock the processors to get 40 Mhz where the Intel could only do 33 Mhz. These speeds are ridiculous in these times because there is just too much speed going on today than before. Back in the day, every little Mhz counted for something and showed of things to come having left behind the computers that were running in Khz.

This is just too exciting and i am thinking how fast would a quad core go? It is just unbelievable that we can lay our hands on such power and speed at the cost that is too unthinkable. And hard disk space. I remember a time when one would need 50 thousand pesos to buy a 5 MB hard disk. Today, 160 GB costs a little more than 2 thousand pesos. This is just too unimaginable some years ago. This only goes to show that computing power has really gone the distance.

Computer Hardware (Keywords: cpu, ching's world, cagayan de oro city, registers, data, 16-bit, 8-bit,32-bit,64-bit)
Gone are the days of 8-bit and 16-bit cpus capable of operating on a byte or word of data. A byte of course refers to 8 bits of data and a word contains 16 bits of data. Very quickly, as the personal computer was adapted by people and companies, the need to be able to work on bigger data led to the creation of 32-bit and 64-bit cpus capable of accommodating large numbers of bits in their registers. Speeds also were used as a means of getting more work done. If clock speeds were doubled then, the cpu could process twice the data. The different processor manufacturers therefore raced to increase clock speeds. AMD made headlines by beating Intel in implementing a processor that operated on the 1 gigahertz speed.

These days speeds of 3 Gigahertz are implemented in high-end personal computers. However, as speeds increase, so do temperatures leading to many problems. Very quickly, processor designers came to a wall and new designs were needed to bring greater computing power to the hands of users who demand more and more of the power they have come to know and depend on.

Personal Computers (Keywords: personal computers, powerful cpu, apache, linux, web servers)
The Personal Computer has really come to its own. With a small footprint, it belies the power it holds in its belly with memory to match. The power of personal computers is now powering music and graphics, even movie animation. Much of it is to be credited to Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak who pioneered the personal computer as an appliance. Using off-the-shelf components like most hobbyists at the time, they sought to make it an appliance which people could just buy fully built up unlike the kits that were being sold. This led to large numbers of people adopting it leading to business people taking notice and beginning to take advantage of this phenomenon. Such was how the Personal Computer Industry was born. Proof of their success was the entry of IBM  into this arena with the IBM PC.

The personal has led to the Blog phenomenon which has taken the Internet by storm. Here are some of them: Dr. Raoul G. de la Serna, Thoughts on the Ideal World, Haresh Frederick S. de la Serna, Jai Alexander S. de la Serna.

Nowadays, it is possible to host websites on your own computer using open-source software like Linux and Apache connected to a DSL line. This is the case of Ching's World which is hosted on personal computers running Squeak Smalltalk.
